1) Arraial do Cabo

Arraial do Cabo is about 30 minutes away from Búzios. Arraial is an excellent diving spot and with beaches featuring impressive blue and green colored waters. Some say it is even more beautiful than the Caribbean. A must there is the Pontal do Atalaia, which offers incredible views and is one of the city's most famous places. The view from the top of the huge rock that hangs over the ocean is spectacular: beautiful beaches, islands, the extense Massambaba coastline and the Lagoa Araruama.

A good option at Arraial is a boat ride, where you can visit several beaches at once, some of which are only accessible by water. The boats leave from the pier at Anjos Beach and take the tourists to unbelievable places. It is worth while renting diving equipment to appreciate Arraial do Cabo's ocean attractions. You will see very rich ocean fauna, sunken ships, reefs, corals. A true underwater spectacle!

Praia do Forte: one of the most sought beaches during summer.

Cabo Frio is the largest city in the Região dos Lagos (Lakes Region) and is famous for it's sand dunes and beaches. Praia do Forte (Fort Beach) is the most famous and sought beach in Cabo Frio. During summer, you might have a hard time to find a spot to set your umbrella after midday. The left side of the beach ends at the Forte São Matheus (São Matheus Fort), a XVII century building, built to guard and protect the area from foreign invaders.

Other very beautiful beaches (in Cabo Frio, it's hard to tell what isn't beautiful) are Peró and Conchas. Peró Beach is the last beach before Búzios, and to the right is Conchas Beach. These beaches are less packed as they are surrounded mainly by summer homes. "Rua dos Biquínis" (Bikini Road), also brings many tourist to the city. This is a open air mall featuring over 200 stores specializing in beach fashion, which during summer draws well over 3,500 people daily.
