Kite surfing in Búzios
Kite surf is a combination of windsurf, surf and wakeboard: a relatively new sport which has been attracting sports enthusiasts that find in the sport the excitement and pleasure of combining the sky and the sea. It consists in a type of windsurf board and a small kite that drags the board and allows the movement and stunts on the water. Depending on the wind conditions, the kite reaches huge speeds and pulls the surfer across the water as if pulled by a boat.
In Búzios the sport is practiced mainly at the Manguinhos and Rasa beaches, because of the constant good wind on the beaches.
Búzios Kite Surfing School is the first and only kite surf school in Búzios and is part of the IKO (International Kite Board Organization). Their instructor, Eduardo Graf, is one of the eight instructors that participated in the only course for instructors done in Brazil. The classes follow the method created by IKO over three years ago, with a series of standard exercises that offer total safety to its students. The school also has modern equipment, with all sizes and models of kites and boards, besides safety equipment such as life-vests, helmets and rescue boat.
The course takes 8 to 10 hours and can be done in two, three or four days, depending on the student's availability and the climatic conditions. All the equipment is provided by the school, and the basic course costs R$ 600.00. An intensive course is offered (weekend) costing R$ 400.00. The classes are private and must be scheduled in advance.
