Rafting, rappel, ecologic horseback rides and walks in Sana. Radical sports, for sure, but always with utmost safety in mind

Besides the beaches, ocean and associated sports and leisure, Buzios also has ideal places for ecologic adventures and walks, located close by.

At Serramar, Casemiro de Abreu, located about 30 minutes away from Buzios, at one of the most beautiful sights in Rio de Janeiro, excitement is guaranteed. There are plenty of options to choose amongst these absolutely ecological programs. Walks, visiting the waterfalls, rappel and downstream rafting in Macaé and Alto Macaé are some of the activities. Since the region is covered with trails running through the Atlantic Forest and hills, it is an ideal place to enjoy radical sports.

Pai João Path

One of the many waterfalls found along the Pai João Path. The first option for radical tours is to go through the Pai João Path. It winds down creeks until reaching the first waterfall with natural pools, where you can enjoy a delicious natural massage. After refreshing, nothing better than another walk down the river bank, through thick woods. The tour lasts about two hours and the way back to the camp is done by car. A snack is served at the Canoar Camp. The snacks consist of natural juices, sandwiches and chocolates. To relax, the place has showers and hammocks to lay in.

Rappel

Rappel wall Pure adrenaline is doing rappel on a 25-meter high waterfall. The adventure lasts about 2 to 3 hours and the view is unbelievable. The minimum age for this activity is 8. After the adventure, juices and sandwiches are offered.

Rafting (downstream in inflatable rafts) and duck

Instructors follow and orient the Duck in conventional kayaks

One of the obstacles in the rafting course

Rafting and duck (for experienced people) in Macaé and Alto Macaé are special. The course is between 4.5 to 6 km and is pure excitement. With incredible views, the program lasts 1:30 to 2:30 hrs and the minimum age admitted is 8 years for rafting and 12 for duck. The difference between rafting and duck is that in rafting, the raft takes 5 people (plus the instructor) and in duck, which is more challenging, only two people go. Everything is very organized: after changing clothes for the adventure, the adventurer signs a responsibility waiver. After that, the instructors run a presentation, read the safety terms, organize stretching and equipment distribution. The adventure starts at the Macaé beach in front of Canoar Camp or at Barra do Sana, if in Alto Macaé.

For the more experienced, the ride runs at a high rate of speed: body boarding, swimming and boat flipping, for those who love thrills. The course has calm waters and rough waters and lasts about 1:30 to 2:00 hrs. The departures from the Canoar Camp are at 9 am and 2 pm.

Ecological Horseback Riding

Tourists riding on horseback, with the Macaé River in the background. Another activity you can't miss is the horseback riding. The Atlantic Forest, seen from on top of a pretty Marching Mangalarga horse, specially trained for this type of horseback riding, is breathtaking. The roads are typical farm dirt roads, offering two hours of pure leisure. The whole ride is monitored by specialized guides and is more common amongst people between 30 and 40 years of age.

Besides the conventional packs, Canoar accepts personalized programs for groups. The departures from Buzios are every Tuesday and Thursday, Saturday and Sunday
