IEBMA - Instituto Ecológico Búzios Mata Atlântica (Buzios Atlantic Forest Ecologic Institute) organizes ecological walks through the Emerências Reserve, with several trails, such as the one that goes to José Gonçalves Beach or the one that leads all the way to Peró Beach.

The groups generally leave from Caravelas Beach (at Búzios Megaresort) every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Use good tennis shoes, light clothes and take sunscreen and plenty water to drink.

A preliminary evaluation of the region, made by the doctors Janis Roze and Amanda Bernal of the City University of New York, revealed the presence of valuable extensions of practically untouched forest.
The ecosystem has Atlantic Forest characteristic flora and fauna elements, mixed with typical elements of other ecosystems in Brazil, making for a unique ecological system that has been studied very little. Many times, during the walks, you can see golden tamarin monkeys, which are endangered animals.
IEBMA was created to be an organization to fully study the relation between man and environment in the region. The owners, institutions and organizations participate in obtaining resources to prevent the destruction of this ecological system.
