Nossa Senhora Desatadora de Nós Chapel
A small great piece of sacred art
Santa Rita Church (to the middle) and the N.S. Desatadora de Nós Chapel (to the right)
Maria Desatadora de Nós is one of the oldest devotions of Our Lady, having started in Germany in 1700 when a miraculous painting inspired by a meditation of Saint Irenaeus was found, picturing the Virgin. Later it was placed in the S.Peter am Perlack Church, in Augsburg. The miracles spread throughout Europe and Argentina, but the Sanctuaries only had one altar dedicated to Her. The chapel in Búzios was built and dedicated exclusively to Nossa Senhora Desatadora dos Nós, different than other churches in Brazil and around the world.

The chapel was built thanks to the devotion of Isis Penido, who paid for everything just so she could see her dream come true. The land was given by the priest of Sant'Anna and Santa Rita, Father Ricardo Whyte.
Construction of the chapel started on March 12, 2001 and the inauguration was on September 8th of the same year. "THE SMALL GREAT PIECE OF ART", as Isis called it, received the Apostolic Blessing from His Holiness THE POPE JOHN PAUL II. An interesting detail is that instead of benches, 33 chairs were installed, in honor to the age of Christ.

Until the beginning of 2003, just 10 months since opening, over 140,000 people have visited the chapel. Many "former vows" have already been received, showing the power of Nossa Senhora, and the gratefulness of all.
On Sundays at 11:30am the Priest, father Ricardo Whyte, devotee of N. Senhora, celebrates the solemn Mass, receives the requests and asks that the Virgin look at them, if it is for the glory of God.
